Lack of red

Another must-have retrofit for every Giulia owner is the OEM red start/stop engine button from the Quadrifoglio, especially when you have a red Giulia. It harmonizes perfectly with the red body color. The steering wheel really needs some red accents. I'd prefer to have red stitching, but since the steering wheel leather is in perfect shape now I postpone adding it for the next tens of thousands of miles.

As I prefer OEM parts I started searching online for an OEM red start engine button over the internet. The prices vary, but typically start at around $70, which seems ridiculous to me since the only difference in these buttons is the cap. Then I found the start button on AliExpress for only around $55. The button comes in an OEM box with OEM stickers and feels OEM product, so I assume it is genuine.

Now, the question of how to install it. I've read numerous guides on removing the airbag, wiring harnesses and unscrewing two screws. Also I removed the steering wheels a dozen times before on my Volkswagen and Ford. However, either I become too lazy for this, or I want to keep the car as much untouched as possible.

As I mentioned the switches differ only in button caps. You can buy a cap on AliExpress for less than $2, meaning that you can remove the cap from a switch. 5 minutes of searching revealed, that it is possible to remove the push button from a switch with just a strong thread.

What could be easier? Using this method and some plastic tools I have for repairing laptops and smartphones, I did this trick. Just a small comment from my side: do not use too much force. The tabs which hold the push button may be damaged. It is not critical if they are, but just try to avoid using excessive force. Instead, gentle wiggle the button left/right while trying to remove it.

Then, I replaced the cap with the red one. After that, all you need is to put the button back into the switch. It looks awesome. +10 hp immediately.

However I don't recommend everyone to purchase the OEM switch assembly. Don't waste that $50; just get the spare cap from AliExpress. Again, the price is less than $2, so you can order 25 of them for that $50 and change them daily.

I decided to order the blue one as an experiment. The quality is the same. Maybe the font is a bit smaller at a specific angle of view, but it is barely noticeable. I assembled the old switch with the blue cap, and it looks awesome. I might install it later for fun.
